Above anything else, Donald Trump is a bully. He is willing to go way farther than any politician in recent memory when it comes to insulting his political opponents. But his insults against Nikki Haley on Saturday were a bit behind the pale.
Trump, who is on his third marriage, decided to attack the former South Carolina Governor's spouse by saying he isn't around. The thing is, Nikki Haley's husband is currently deployed with the United States Army.
Trump said today that he once had Haley down at Mar-a-Lago and she brought her husband. He continued, "Where's her husband? Oh, he's away. He's away! What happened to her husband? What happened to her husband. Where is he? He's gone."
Haley herself seized on the insult from Trump by sharing a video of the comments and writing, "Michael is deployed serving our country, something you know nothing about. Someone who continually disrespects the sacrifices of military families has no business being commander in chief."
Another interesting aspect of Trump's comments is that fact that his wife Melania wants nothing to do with his campaign. Since he lost the election in 2020, very little has been seen of her and the couple seems to be leading separate lives.
