Donald Trump has enacted some pretty brutal policies to deter immigrants from attempting to cross the United States’ southern border. According to a New York Times piece published on Tuesday night, the policies could have been much more barbaric.

While many of the proposed tactics were brutal, others began to border on the absurd. While reading out a list of the proposed polices, CNN’s Don Lemon mockingly compared the President to Austin Powers character Dr. Evil.
The New York Times said the President:
“Often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh. After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down.”
Prior to reading off the ideas, Lemon noted, “When I read this tonight, honestly, I thought this was the craziest thing that I had ever heard, especially coming from a president.”
After finishing the list, the CNN host continued, “Again, sounds hard to believe, doesn’t it? Did Dr. Evil come up with that?”
Lemon closed the segment by asking, “Seriously, Mr. President? What is the matter with you? A moat full of snakes or alligators? That’s some Harry Potter st– right there. It’s not funny, but it’s just laughable. The mind boggles.”
