[WATCH/COMMENTARY] President Biden Will Give Address on 1st Night of DNC

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) next month in Chicago (Aug. 19 - 22) is poised to be even more high-energy than when Barack Obama accepted his party's nomination in 2008.

The first night will serve as the official passing of the torch as Still-The-President Joe Biden will address the convention in a televised prime-time appearance and once again endorse Vice President Kamala Harris and her soon-to-be-named running mate.

Two sources familiar with the planning told CBS News that a "big tribute" is planned for the President that night along with his speech.

A Democratic National Committee convention official said that while no programming decisions are final, "consistent with historical precedent, current and past Presidents are expected to participate in convention programming."

They'll all still have a tough act to follow after Megan Thee Stallion ignited a packed arena in Atlanta on Tuesday. But expect the DNC to deliver some high-voltage celebrity power throughout the week.

"We look forward to sharing more soon about our convention in Chicago where Democrats will offer a forward-looking vision for our country that stands in stark contrast to the extremism from Donald Trump's convention that would take America backward," DNC spokesperson Matt Hill told CBS News.

At least that won't be too difficult, considering the awful interview Trump gave on Wednesday at the National Association of Black Journalists.

It was so bad that even Fox News couldn't deny how bad it was.

President Biden's speech is expected to draw a record audience for the last DNC appearance of his political life. Vice President Kamala Harris, who is expected to announce her running mate soon, will officially accept the party's nomination on the final night of the DNC.
