The Kamala Harris For President campaign is joining forces with some major political names to create a new grassroots outreach program--with Republicans who have been vocal opponents of Donald Trump, many of whom were once on his staff.
It's not enough for the "Never Trumpers" to say why they're voting against Trump, so this effort is to create opportunities to showcase the current administration's achievements and how President Kamala Harris would continue the historic work she began as Vice President.
While some Democrats are still hesitant to trust their motives--after all, many of them supported Trump in 2016 and still support some of their party's platforms and policies--the common goal remains the same: keeping Trump out of office while openly supporting the Vice President's bid for the White House.
The Associated Press reports that the partnership is intended to take the sting out of voting for a Democrat. The program will be a “campaign within a campaign,” according to Harris’ team, with a particular emphasis on primary voters who backed former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and have now pledged to back VP Harris.
The program will kick off with events this week in Arizona, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, with the Republicans backing Harris appearing at rallies with VP Harris and her soon-to-be-named running mate this week.
"There is nothing 'conservative' about Donald Trump," former Congressman Adam Kinzinger tweeted on Sunday. "Conservatives believe in the Constitution, not a 'man’s' ego.
"Endorsing American democracy and the future today, and leaving the past in the dust.
"I’m endorsing Kamala Harris."
"I’m happy to be part of 'Republicans For Harris' to help do all we can to inspire & encourage other Republicans to vote for @KamalaHarris," tweeted former Florida Representative Joe Walsh. "We must all do our part to make certain Trump is never anywhere near the White House ever again"
