WATCH/COMMENTARY: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz Make First Appearance Together in Philly

Vice President Kamala Harris and her new running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, kicked off their tour of battleground states in Philadelphia, PA with a rally at Temple University on Tuesday.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro--who had also been a top contender in the Veepstakes, which Walz ultimately won--warmed up the crowd by leaning into the defining word of the campaign: "weird."

The packed arena sounded more like a church as the crowd sang along to "Respect" and other Motown classics until the campaign's signature song--"Freedom" by Beyoncé--began to play.

"Ladies and Gentleman," a female voice announced, "please welcome the next President and Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz!"

The VP-soon-to-be-POTUS announced to roars that she's officially the Democratic nominee, with all of her delegates confirmed as of Monday night.

VP Harris introduced her new running mate by sharing his list of accomplishments, from his National Guard service to his coaching and teaching career, where he led his high school's losing football team to its first state championship. The Vice President even dropped a Friday Night Lights reference. I love this GenX ticket!

His accomplishments as a Representative and then as Governor included supporting women's reproductive rights and signing a bill to provide free school breakfasts and lunches for every child in his state. That resulted in this photo.

Nobody loves any bill a Republican signs this much. Or at all.

However, the love shown for Tim Walz by the crowd was as obvious as in that photo.

"We are running a campaign for all Americans," the Vice President said. "Let us fight for the promise of our future."
