Two powerhouse political spouses got together over the weekend on Fire Island and destroyed Cher's fundraising record.
Second Gentleman Douglas "Dougie Fresh" Emhoff joined forces at an event with his longtime friend, Chasten Buttigieg, whose husband, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, is polling highest in the Veepstakes, to raise money for the Harris for President campaign.
The event, originally meant to be a fundraiser for President Joe Biden, sold out soon after Vice President Kamala Harris took over as the Democratic nominee. Attendees paid between $250 and $10,000, raising a whopping $325,000.
A 2016 Democratic fundraising event in the fabulous gay enclave headlined by Cher raised $200,000 by comparison, so that tells you just how excited everyone is to vote for Kamala Harris.
Chasten told a story about how during the first 24 hours after they found out they were going to become adoptive parents, their son was placed on a ventilator shortly after his birth. Doug and Kamala FaceTimed the Buttigieges to show their support, even though Pete and Kamala had been opponents during the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.
Vice President Harris later administered Pete Buttigieg’s oath of office when he joined President Joe Biden’s cabinet as Transportation Secretary in 2021.

Emhoff--who I'm calling our "First GentleMensch" in the hopes that the Harris campaign will put it on all the merch--spoke about his close ties with both Chasten and Pete as well as being a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ community.
He reminded the crowd that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wants to overturn prior court decisions that helped win the rights “to do what you want in your home with who you love,” including the rights to contraception and gay marriage. Dougie Fresh was reportedly hanging out with gay friends when Joe Biden dropped out from the race and named his wife as his successor because he's a mensch like that!
Dougie had to be escorted off the island by his Secret Service detail because so many of Fire Island's adorable residents wanted photo ops. Since he's such a good son, he later joined his parents on a Seniors For Harris Zoom call.
