When Chris Wallace announced on Sunday that he was leaving Fox News, there was a brief moment where some people hoped MSNBC was making a trade for Chuck Todd, the unpopular host of “Meet the Press” who gets dragged every Sunday for letting Republicans get away with saying anything they want. Alas, Wallace is heading for the paid content of CNN’s new streaming platform, and Todd is remaining at MSNBC as its mostly mediocre News Director.
Todd must’ve been at least slightly worried about Wallace, though, because he actually held a Republican accountable on this week’s show, a rare moment captured on camera that’s now been preserved for posterity.
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) refused to admit that President Joe Biden won the 2020 election on Sunday, and if you don’t happen to have a calendar handy, that’s a good thirteen months after the fact. Everyone is really tired of hearing the Trumpocrites whine about losing last year’s election while also complaining that people just won’t move on from January 6th, but Chuck thought it was fine to let Marshall whine more about the Big Lie for a bit on Sunday. Todd asked Marshall why Donald Trump still has not conceded the 2020 election (and really, Chuck? You know why, please find something else to fixate on), and instead of a real answer, he got a word salad. “I think this is an issue of election integrity,” Marshall opined. “When we value the ballot and the ballot booth, we want election integrity. Uh, there’s a lot of controversy out there and I’m focused right now on making it easier to vote and harder to cheat. I think that’s the focus right now.”

Roger Marshall: I'm always going to stand for election integrity
Todd: Do you think Biden was elected fair and square?

But then a weird thing happened. Todd noted that Marshall had officially objected to the election results on January 6th despite the attack on the U.S. Capitol. And then he asked Marshall about his own election compared to Joe Biden’s. That’s…that’s actual accountability.

While Marshall hemmed and hawed over the President’s legitimate election, he had none of the same qualms about his own.
“Do you believe you were elected fair and square in 2020?” Todd asked.
“You know, absolutely,” Marshall replied. “I think Kansas has some of the tightest election laws in the land. We went back and looked at that to make sure it was a safe and fair election.”
Todd then went on and did more of his job, asking the Senator if President Biden has been elected fairly, but Marshall wouldn’t answer the question directly. “Do you believe that Joe Biden was elected fair and square?” Todd wanted to know. “Uh, you know, Joe Biden was sworn into office,” Marshall remarked. “I called him Mr. President since the day he was sworn in.”
Election denier @chucktodd pushed the Big Lie this morning with insurrectionist Roger Marshall, who claimed on Meet the Press that the election was stolen
