Last night was the Golden Globes, and as you may have come to realize it’s hard to have a internationally televised rewards show these days without politics making their way into the mix. Last night’s Golden Globes were no different.

When the 44-year-old British actor, Christian Bale came up on stage to give his acceptance speech for ‘Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy’ for “Vice,” no one really knew what to expect. Bale played former Vice President Dick Cheney in the comedic drama which mocks Cheney’s storied past.

After thanking his wife Sibi Blazic as well as various co-stars from from the film, including Steve Carell, Amy Adams and Sam Rockwell, the actor proceeded to attack both the man he played in the film, Dick Cheney, as well as the current Republican Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell.

“Thank you to, uh, Satan, for giving me inspiration on how to play this role,” Bale said, referring to former Vice President Cheney.

Bale then continued, thanking the director of the film Adam McKay for casting him as someone “absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody,” before sending a jab towards McConnell, saying, “What do you think, Mitch McConnell next?”

This was Bale’s fourth Golden Globe nomination and second win. A video of Bale’s acceptance speech can be seen below:
