WATCH: Carl Bernstein Calls Trump a ‘War Criminal’

Donald Trump has been called a lot of things by a lot of people, but a new moniker from Carl Bernstein carries more gravitas than others. Appearing on CNN, the Watergate journalist says it’s time to start looking at Trump in a different context and calls the twice-impeached Florida retiree America’s “own war criminal”, something we’ve never seen before.

Bernstein, who did much of the original news reporting on the scandal that eventually led to the resignation of then-President Richard Nixon, spoke with Brian Stelter and held nothing back.

Bernstein said Trump’s alleged crimes include the hundreds of thousands of people who died during the pandemic due to what he called Trump’s “homicidal negligence.” He accused Trump of “putting his own electoral interests above the health of our people, as they were slaughtered in this pandemic.”

Nailed it, Carl.

Stetler seemed shocked by Bernstein’s terminology, but there’s no reason to mince words when it comes to criminal acts performed from the Oval Office. Bernstein reminded his host that General Mark Milley reportedly compared Trump’s supporters and his movement to “brownshirts,” a paramilitary group in Nazi Germany. “Not the press, not reporters comparing Trump to Hitler, but rather the head of the American military comparing him and his movement to brownshirts,” he said.

“Trump is not just political – he transcends the political, and we need to start looking at his crimes in that context,” Bernstein continued. “He is our own American war criminal of a kind we’ve never experienced before,” Bernstein claimed. “I think what we’re talking about – Trump’s crimes as an American war criminal in his own country that he has perpetrated upon our people, including the tens of thousands of people who died because of his homicidal negligence in the pandemic.”
