This week, Joe Biden selected California congresswoman Kamala Harris to be his running mate. The Trump campaign was seemingly caught flat-footed by the choice. The GOP has tried to slam the senator, but they can’t seem to come up with an attack that sticks.
HBO’s Bill Maher discussed the selection of Harris during his monologue on Friday night. The host mocked Trump’s attacks on Harris, saying he didn’t know to properly be racist towards her.
“The Democratic ticket got set this week,” said Maher. “Kamala Harris is going to be Joe Biden’s vice president. I think that’s very exciting, very historic. A Black Asian-American woman whose mother is from Indian and whose father is from Jamaica. Trump is so confused, he didn’t know where to tell her to go back to.”
The host continued, “But of course, you know, no sooner had they announced that name, you know — they didn’t get to the ‘Harris’ and the Republicans pounced. Trump was attacking. ‘She’s nasty, disrespectful phony.’ Geez, can she get in the door? Could you let mommy put her purse down?”
The segment amounted to a bit of revenge for Maher. Earlier in the week, Trump slammed the HBO host, tweeting, “He’s totally SHOT, looks terrible, exhausted, gaunt, and weak. If there was ever a good reason for no shutdown, check out this jerk. He never had much going for him, but whatever he did have is missing in action!”
