When Joe Biden first took office back in January, he pledged to beat back COVID-19. One would hope, with plenty of Americans dying each day, everyone would get on board. But that hasn’t happened. Vaccinations rates in red states have been much lower than those in blue states. As a result, the Delta variant is surging in much of Trump country.
On Thursday, Biden announced mandates in an effort to take the country back from anti-vaxxers. As a result, a number of Republican governors have threatened to sue. On Friday, a defiant Biden urged them to “have at it.”
The President told reporters, “I am so disappointed that particularly some Republican governors have been so cavalier with the health of these kids, so cavalier with the health of their communities,” Biden said. “We’re playing for real here. This isn’t a game. And I don’t know of any scientist out there in this field that doesn’t think it makes considerable sense to do the six things I’ve suggested.”
Biden also noted that a large majority of Americans are for vaccine mandates so that the country could get back on track. He continued, “Look at the polling data. The vast majority of the American people know we have to do these things. They’re hard, but necessary.”
