There is a severe crisis going on in Texas right now. Millions of people are still without power as temperatures remain in the teens. People are being told to boil drinking water, but many don’t have the electricity to do so. There are already 21 confirmed deaths from the storm.
Ted Cruz, however, is on recess from his job in the senate. And he doesn’t feel the need to be in the he represents right now. Photos were taken of the Texas senator last night departing to Mexico for a vacation with his family. On Thursday morning, his former senate opponent, Beto O’Rourke, ripped Cruz for skipping town during the crisis.
Journalist David Shuster tweeted about Cruz’s trip last night, tweeting, “Just confirmed Ted Cruz and his family flew to Cancun tonight for a few days at a resort they’ve visited before. Cruz seems to believe there isn’t much for him to do in Texas for the millions of fellow Texans who remain without electricity/water and are literally freezing.”

O’Rourke was asked about Cruz this morning on MSNBC. He told Willie Geist, “Unless we hold those responsible, accountable for that they did. And that means Donald Trump. But it also means the junior senator from the state of Texas, who I also understand is vacationing in Cancun right now. When people are literally freezing to death in the state that he was elected to represent and serve. When Ted Cruz helps to incite that sedition. Seeks to overturn a lawfully, legitimate, democratically decided election, he is just culpable for the insurrection, the coup attempts, the deaths.”
