Watch: Benny Johnson Delighted by All the White Faces at Turning Point USA Event
Charlie Kirk founded Turning Point USA in 2012 to promote conservative ideals on college campuses. The organization has quickly grown with financial support from figures such as Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas.
Turning Point frequently holds events to help grow their membership. At one of those events this weekend, writer Benny Johnson marveled at how many white faces he saw in the audience.
Johnson was brought to the stage with music by Kanye West pumping in the background. He told the assembled crowd, “Oh my god I’ve never seen so many white people in one room, this is incredible!

The organization has been accused of racial bias in the past. In December of 2017, The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer uncovered racist text messages sent by Turning Point’s national field director, Crystal Clanton. One message read, “i hate black people. Like f*ck them all . . . I hate blacks. End of story.”
Johnson himself is a controversial figure. In 2014, the writer was fired by Buzzfeed for multiple instances of plagiarism. He moved on to the Independent Journal Review, where he was once again fired for plagiarizing the work of other writers. He was hired by Turning Point in February of 2019.
