WATCH: AZ GOP Gov. Doug Ducey Slams Trump-Backed Candidate Kari Lake

The Republican Party is now firmly in the hands of Donald Trump. And that means that the candidates Trump backs are probably going to win whether they are good or bad for the party.

During a Sunday interview, Doug Ducey was asked about the former President’s impact on the party. While Trump is no fan of Ducey, the retiring Arizona Governor said he wouldn’t rule out backing him in 2024. Ducey also tore into the person Trump would like to succeed him, Kari Lake.

The Arizona Governor told CNN’s Dana Bash, “Well, the names on the ballot are Karrin Robson and Kari Lake. Robson is the real conservative; she’s the real deal; she started her career working for Ronald Reagan, she’s pro-gun, pro-life. She’s the mother of four. She’s been a community leader and a successful business person and I think Karrin Taylor Robson will be the best person to be a fresh, new leader for the state of Arizona.”

Ducey continued:

“Her opponent, on the other hand, bears no resemblance. Her campaign or even her personal interactions with me to anything she’s done over the past 30 years. This is all an act. She’s been putting on a show for some time now and we’ll see if the voters of Arizona buy it.”

While Lake has the backing of the former President, she has a tough primary race ahead of her. A July poll shows her leading opponent Karrin Robson by only 5%.
