WATCH: ATL Mayor Bottoms to Trump: Just Stop Talking
In 2017, Keisha Lance Bottoms became the 60th Mayor of Atlanta. She has been popular in the city and has also had to deal with some controversy. Earlier this year, she sparred with Governor Brian Kemp over his rush to reopen the state of Georgia.
The Mayor has also been critical of the recent riots in her city. On Friday, she made a plea to certain demonstrators noting that they are “disgracing” Atlanta. Bottoms has also been unhappy with Donald Trump. During a Sunday CNN appearance she said that she wished the President would just stop talking.
The Georgia lawmaker made the comments during an interview with Jake Tapper.
Bottoms began by comparing Donald Trump’s reactions to the protests to his infamous reaction to 2016’s Charlottesville rally. “He should just stop talking,” she said. “This is like Charlottesville all over again. He speaks and he makes it worse. There are times when you should just be quiet, and I wish that he would just be quiet.”
The Atlanta Mayor then said that if Trump can’t control himself, someone else in the White House needs to help him. “If there’s somebody of good sense and good conscience in the White House, put him in front of a teleprompter and pray that he reads it and at least says the right things.”
