WATCH: Angry Betsy DeVos Fails to Answer Simple Questions

It is pretty normal for Presidents on both sides of the aisle to reward supporters with ambassadorships. Donald Trump rewarded his supporters with important positions in his cabinet. It didn’t matter to the President if they had no experience in the job, as is the case with HUD Secretary Ben Carson.

The most egregious of these appointments might have been making Betsy DeVos the Secretary of Education. The billionaire donor has proven to be incompetent on multiple occasions, but she remains on the job. During a Thursday testimony before a House committee, the Education Secretary failed to answer basic questions.

There was a particularly tense back and forth between DeVos and Wisconsin representative Mark Pocan. Pocan asked the Secretary about a Washington Post report about charter schools receiving money from the federal government. The congressman said that 40% of these schools, “collected the grants and then either did not open, or have opened and shut down.”

DeVos responded, “Everything you’re citing is debunked, ridiculous, so I don’t accept the premise of your question.”

When Pocan countered by saying nothing in the report was debunked or inaccurate, DeVos grew angrier, calling the study propaganda. The congressman then asked, “So what percent of charter schools are failing?”

When DeVos didn’t have an answer, Pocan said, “You’re the Secretary of Education and you don’t have this? You ‘know’ this report’s wrong, but you don’t.”
