WATCH: Anderson Cooper Blasts Mike Pence For Lying About COVID Stats
The number of COVID cases as well as hospitalizations from the disease are down over the last few months. But it still can not be said, however, that the United States has the disease under control. A large number of states, especially those who reopened early, are seeing their cases spike.
Oklahoma, where Donald Trump will hold a rally this weekend, it one of those places with cases on the rise. On Monday, Mike Pence said the state had “flattened the curve.” On Tuesday night, Anderson Cooper took Pence to task for his lie and also for calling on others to stretch the truth.
Cooper began the segment by saying, “In states like Florida and Texas and Arizona, each of those states hit records for new cases today. And it’s not the case in Oklahoma, either. Cases there are doubling every month. The curve, as you see, is not only climbing but climbing more steeply than it was even a couple weeks ago.”

The anchor continued, “This is what the president and vice president are being dishonest about. Today we heard audio obtained of a conference call this week in which the vice president told state governors to spin the figures.”
Cooper then talked about the danger of Pence’s dishonesty:
“A senior U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official telling CNN the vice president is selectively choosing data to make his point, ‘cherry picking’ it being less than truthful. Put more bluntly in that quiver in [Pence’s] voice that says Mom and apple pie, he is lying and telling authority figures to lie, too, about something that could get people killed.”
