The 2023 elections showed that Donald Trump is still a drag on the Republican party and its ability to get nominees elected. There is also the very real possibility that the former President could be in jail by the time the 2024 election rolls around.
It would be best for the party to rid itself of Trump once and for all, but the GOP just can't seem to do so. During Tuesday's show, the hosts of The View discussed the Republican party and its problem with Trump.
Alyssa Farah Griffin had a theory as to why important party members can't come out against Trump. She began, "As someone who shouted from the rooftops about this, the two most common questions I get are, how is Trump still powerful and why haven't more spoken out against him."
The View co-host continued:
"It is money and power. So, there's a multibillion-dollar industry around Donald Trump in a way that never existed with any other politician in our lifetime. Yes, he controls the RNC and other party committees, NRCC, but also, there's a revolving door of basically political influencers who came about during the Trump era through him platforming them and amplifying him like, Charlie Kirks and Candace Owens wouldn't have existed without the MAGA side of things."
Farah Griffin closed, "People are making so much money off him despite he's lost for Republicans since 2018. I think at the end of the day, it's not so much the fear factor but literally good for their bottom line."
