WATCH: Adam Kinzinger Says Secret Service Is Welcomed To Testify But Hasn’t Done So

There’s a narrative floating around, perpetuated by far-right sources, that the Secret Service members who drove Donald Trump back to the White House from his January 6th rally have contradicted Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony about that day, and are willing to say so under oath. Adam Kinzinger explained Sunday morning why that story is not only inaccurate, but a problem for more serious reasons.

WASHINGTON, DC – JUNE 28: Cassidy Hutchinson, a top former aide to Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, testifies during the sixth hearing by the House Select Committee on the January 6th insurrection in the Cannon House Office Building on June 28, 2022 in Washington, DC. Cassidy Hutchinson, who served as an aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, testified that she had overheard a conversation on January 6th suggesting that Donald Trump threw a full-fledged tantrum, trying to grab the wheel of a vehicle and getting physical with Secret Service members when they refused to take him to the Capitol to join his mob. This was one piece of the story, along with other information she knew first-hand.

Immediately, there began to be claims from anonymous sources saying that the Secret Service members in question had denied that part of the story and were willing to testify under oath that this hadn’t happened. Representative Kinzinger explained Sunday morning that in fact, the Committee has an open invitation for that testimony, and it has not been forthcoming.

More importantly, he explains, this is a pattern. Trump is credibly accused of something, and his supporters pick a minor detail, pretend that they can disprove this smallest part, and, without actually doing so, imply that this discredits the entire overarching story.

“The door is wide open…I will tell you this much. The Committee is more than welcoming, if they will testify under oath, to throw the doors wide open for them and walk them in at any moment. It is not our decision that they haven’t…You hear anonymous sources, some which may actually be the people of interest themselves, coming forward and saying oh no that’s not true, but they’re unwilling to do it under oath.

Now, this is all a sideshow, the question of what happened in the limo, but it does go to the fact that what Donald Trump and his people do, is they try to say somebody begged them for a job, or somebody begged them for an endorsement, or this little part of the story isn’t true, to try to discredit a witness, and they’re failing at this too.”
