During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Fox talked about a backhanded compliment Ivanka Trump once gave her that was dripping with racial undertones.
The idea of NBC’s There Apprentice was always a bit of a joke. The show presented Donald Trump, a man with a career of massive failures, as some kind of mogul. Trump would judge contestants from some of the best business schools in America. Worse still, the host made judges out of his children.
Eventually, producers created a spin-off show where celebrities competed against each other. Fox was a contestant on one of those shows and talked about her experience with Ivanka.
She told host Andy Cohen, “I’ll never forget that when I did ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and Ivanka Trump, she said, ‘Wow, you speak very well.” This comment has been made to black people for decades. The racism lies in the insinuation that the person shouldn’t speak properly because they are African American.
Fox continued, “No, Andy. I hate to say it. I don’t think she knew at the time that she was insulting us. I really think that she thought she was complimenting us. That it was like, ‘Oh, wow, you guys are intelligent.’”
Cohen then questioned the producers who aired the show despite the comments. “Think of the layers and layers of white people that saw a cut of that show and aired it and they said, ‘Oh, this is great.'”
