WATCH: 100k Dead Americans, 1 Wrong President, Says New Ad

The Lincoln Project has released its newest ad opposing the re-election of President Donald Trump. Focusing on the death toll of the coronavirus pandemic, the ad is titled, “100,000 Dead Americans, 1 Wrong President.” Trump has previously shown strong reactions to Lincoln Project’s ads criticizing his COVID-19 response.

The newest Lincoln Project ad was released Tuesday night. It opens with a view of several body bags, and Trump can be heard downplaying the virus. “And again, when you have fifteen people, and the fifteen within a couple of days it’s gonna be down to close to zero.” “Close to zero” echoes deeply as the camera pans out to show the few body bags turning into row upon row, making up a U.S. flag.

The voiceover is from February, when Trump suggested that the illness would be gone in a short time. Instead, by the CDC’s count, there are now over 98k U.S. deaths due to COVID-19, and that number is still growing daily.

According to Forbes, a recent study showed that acting earlier, rather than claiming the virus would go away without intervention, would have saved at least 54k of those lives.

Still, rather than taking responsibility for the lives lost, Trump continues to congratulate himself. In a tweet this week, he declared that he’s getting “great reviews,” but also “no credit” for his administration’s response.

This is only the latest in a series of somber ads released by the Lincoln Project, ofter using Trump’s own words, in his own voice, to decry his behavior, his pandemic response, and his presidency. At least one of these has gotten Trump’s attention. The video titled “Mourning In America” sent Trump on a midnight multi-tweet rant, and stayed on his mind to such an extent that he had to tweet about the group again in the afternoon the day after it was released.

The organization states their purpose as: “…holding accountable those who would violate their oaths to the Constitution and would put others before Americans.”
