Warren To Trump: Time To Pay Up
In a tweet this morning, US Senator Elizabeth Warren challenged President Trump to honor his pledge to give $1M to a charity of her choice.
“By the way, @realDonaldTrump: Remember saying on 7/5 that you’d give $1M to a charity of my choice if my DNA showed Native American ancestry? I remember – and here’s the verdict. Please send the check to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center: http://www.niwrc.org/donate-niwrc,” Warren tweeted.
The NIWRC is a nonprofit organization that works to protect Native women from violence.
Warren was referring to Trump’s challenge made during a political rally in Montana on July 5th.
Earlier today, Warren released a DNA test that provides “strong evidence” she has a Native American in her lineage, dating back 6 to 10 generations, according to The Boston Globe.
The DNA test results come after years of speculation that Warren had falsified her heritage in order to advance her career.
The Massachusetts senator, 69, said she was told growing up that she was part Cherokee.
Trump has seized on Warren’s claim several times during his campaign and presidency. At a rally in July, he said if he had to face her in a debate, he would offer Warren $1 million to take a DNA test.
At a White House event honoring World War II Navajo code talkers he referred to Warren’s claims to Native American ancestry. “You were here long before any of us were here,” he told the honorees. “Although we have a representative in Congress who, they say, was here a long time ago. They call her ‘Pocahontas.’ ”
Carlos Bustamonte, a Stanford University professor and DNA analysis expert, conducted Warren’s DNA test, which identified five of Warren’t genetic segments as Native American, according to his report. Bustamante was not aware of the donor’s identity when he was studying the DNA.
