Tammy Duckworth continued her families long and proud tradition of serving in the US Military. The Illinois Senator made an incredible sacrifice in 2004, losing both legs after her helicopter was shot down by Iraqi insurgents.

Duckworth recently took issues with comments the president made to Piers Morgan about his lack of service during the Vietnam War. The Senator ripped into Trump questioning both the legitimacy of his deferments and his general courage.
Using the Cadet Bone Spurs hashtag, the Purple Heart recipient tweeted, “No one cares whether you were a “fan” of the Vietnam War. No one believes you were medically unfit to serve. You used your wealth & privilege to avoid serving your country five times, forcing another American to serve in your place each time.”

She continued,”Sane people aren’t “fans” of war—only stable geniuses would even think that. I’ve met many World War II Vets. None ever said they were fans of war. They simply answered their nation’s call, regardless of what they thought. Especially during the draft—it wasn’t optional for them.”

The Illinois Senator ended the brutal take down by remarking, “These comments only make one thing clear: Donald Trump got his deferments for the wrong thing. They shouldn’t have been for his disappearing, imaginary bone spurs—they should have been for that yellow streak down his back. At least that would have been a real condition.”

The president has not yet commented on Duckworth’s tweets. Trump has shown a willingness to argue with people who have previously been considered off limits such as John McCain and Khzir Khan.
