Vulnerable GOP Sen. McSally Begs Supporters To Skip a Meal So They Can Donate To Her Campaign
While Martha McSally is currently one of Arizona’s two senators, she was never elected to be there. McSally lost her senate race to Kyrsten Sinema in 2018. Shortly thereafter, McSally was placed in her seat by Governor Doug Ducey following the retirement of Jon Kyl.
And it doesn’t look like she is going to be there much longer. She will be facing Democrat Mark Kelly and the polls don’t show her remotely close to winning. In an effort to prop up her flailing campaign, McSally recently asked her supporters to skip a meal so that they can donate to her.
McSally made the comments at a recent campaign event. She told supporters, “We’re doing our part to catch up, you know, to get our message out. But it takes resources. So, anybody can give, I’m not ashamed to ask, to invest. If you can give a dollar, five dollars, if you can fast a meal and give what that would be.”
While the plea seemed to be quite serious, the McSally team is telling reporters that it wasn’t. A campaign spokesperson said, “This is a dumb non-story about a candidate making a joke on the stump.”
Joke or not, McSally is in serious trouble in her race against Kelly. A recent poll conducted by Redfield Wilton showed the incumbent down by an incredible 19 points, 53%-34%.
