Back in October, when word of Trump’s call with Volodmyr Zelensky came out, Republicans were quick to say the President did nothing wrong. As more and more evidence has come out, though, the stance has changed to Trump was in the wrong, but the call wasn’t so bad.
Lindsey Graham even argued the other day that Trump was ok, because “in his mind”, he wasn’t doing anything wrong. On Friday night, Fox News host Tucker Carlson attempted to minimize the Democrats case by saying Trump just has a different way of doing things.
Carlson made the argument while trying to take apart Congressman Adam Schiff’s now viral floor speech. The Fox host said that if Schiff truly believes the things he said, he is “dangerous to the country.”
In an attempt to minimize the claims against Trump, Carlson continued, “This isn’t really about a phone call that Donald Trump once made to Ukraine. It’s actually, underneath it all, a policy disagreement.”
The host then said that Trump was leading the country in ways that no President has in the past. “Trump said things that, until then, no major Republican candidate had been willing to say out loud,” Carlson claimed. “He called the Iraq war, for example, ‘a big fat mistake.’ He said America ought to reach an agreement with Russia rather than fighting proxy wars against them. He called the trillions of dollars we spent in the Middle East a waste.”
