President Donald Trump is trying to assail concerns that his unnecessary partial government shutdown is hurting his own base of supporters. Nearly one week after Trump shutdown parts of the federal government over his demand for border wall funding, the President is claiming, with zero evidence, that it’s mostly affecting Democrats.

On Thursday, the President claimed that “most of the people not getting paid” are Democrats and that many federal workers support the creation of the border wall, a statement that goes against many polls that show a majority of Americans do not support Trump’s wall.
“Have the Democrats finally realized that we desperately need Border Security and a Wall on the Southern Border,” Trump said in his tweet. “Need to stop Drugs, Human Trafficking, Gang Members & Criminals from coming into our Country. Do the Dems realize that most of the people not getting paid are Democrats?”

Regardless of who’s affected, there are nearly 800,000 federal workers who are not receiving paychecks during the holidays because of Trump’s actions. Currently, Trump is demanding $5 billion in funding to start construction of large portions of his largely unwanted border wall.
Approximately 25 percent of the federal government has been shut down since Saturday after Democrats in Congress rejected the $5 billion request and instead offered $1.6 billion for overall border security needs.
Nancy Pelosi has said House Democrats are likely to submit their own spending bill on January 3. She has promised that the alternative bill will not include funding for Trump’s border wall campaign promise.
