Trump’s Nepotism Reigns Supreme As He Plans To Put Jared And Ivanka In Charge Of Shoring Up The Economy
There is a reason that there are nepotism rules when it comes to the American presidency.
In the middle of a global pandemic that threatens to tank the economy in ways we have not seen since the Great Depression, President Donald Trump has decided that the two best people to be in charge of making sure that does not happen are his son-in-law Jared Kushner and his daughter Ivanka Trump.
Bloomberg News reports that there will be a panel on the matter of the economic crisis that is the result of the global coronavirus pandemic, and Jared and Ivanka will head it up. The report says, in part:
The White House is considering whether to create a working group focused on reviving the U.S. economy after the coronavirus pandemic eases, and whether the panel should include private-sector representatives.
The discussions are in their early stages, according to three people familiar with the matter. Administration officials including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner and the director of the National Economic Council, Larry Kudlow, may be involved, the people said.
Meadows has also asked Trump’s daughter and senior adviser Ivanka Trump to join the group, one person said. All of the people spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions are ongoing.
Let us hope that this does not come to fruition. Who knows how many actual economists are on Trump’s White House payroll at the moment, but if this tinpot idea is actually being considered seriously, there cannot be many.
Additionally, if the acting Chief of Staff, former North Carolina GOP Congressman Mark Meadows, cannot see what a disaster this would be, there is no real hope for any of us.
This is what happens when nepotism runs rampant in government. This is what the Founders explicitly did not want. Yet, here we are, with our own twisted version of an American royal family.
There is very real evidence that Jared Kushner at least has his hands in Trump’s bumbling coronavirus response already, and has been urging a premature re-opening of the economy at the most dangerous time imaginable.
In short, people, don’t listen to Trump. Don’t listen to his son-in-law and daughter. Stay at home. At least if he and his nepotism tank the economy, we’ll all still be alive.
Get ready for a modern-day Great Depression folks. In a way, we’re already in it.
