The most fervent supporters of Donald Trump have proven again and again that they’ll do or say just about anything to demonstrate their loyalty to the outgoing president. Scraping the bottom of the barrel of human emotion now can be included in the repertoire of those who objected to being called “deplorables.”
Friday was the 48th anniversary of the 1972 car accident that killed Joe Biden’s first wife and infant daughter Naomi. As a touching sign of remembrance that countless people perform, the President-elect and future First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited their graves at the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington, Del. Biden’s son, Beau, who succumbed to brain cancer, also is buried in the cemetery.
Not long after a photo of the Biden’s at the cemetery was published Trump supporters began mocking the visit by deeming it nothing more than a photo op. Some suggested that Biden was at the burial ground looking for voters.
“Joe Biden makes last minute trip to cemetery to rally up deceased voters,” said a post-turned-meme that climbed to the top of Reddit’s largest pro-Trump group Friday evening. Comments to a Facebook post about the visit by WLKY News in Louisville, Ky., demonstrated the worst of the human condition.
This isn’t the first time Trump’s supporters – and even members of his campaign – have mocked the Bidens for paying respect to their deceased family members. In September, Francis Brennan, the campaign’s director of strategic response, said Biden “just keeps meandering along” as he visited the Delaware graveyard where his son, daughter and first wife are all buried.”
