Trump Threatens To Leave WHO Over China Conspiracy

President Trump is threatening to leave the WHO. Trump sent a letter to the organization’s Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus saying as much. The threat is being made over Trump’s belief that China is at fault for the spread of the coronavirus.  President Trump has been very vocal about blaming China for the spread of the coronavirus. He has also accused The World Health Organization of helping China cover up their wrongdoing. A couple of months back Trump halted funding to the WHO until their response to the virus could be investigated.

On Monday, Trump said that he would halt funding to the WHO on a permanent basis, and America would leave the organization.  According to the Trump administration, their investigation into the WHO’s  “failed response” revealed the health organization’s  “alarming lack of independence” when it comes to China.

Trump’s criticism of the WHO continued with him accusing the organization of turning a blind eye to China’s role in the spread. Trump believes this was done “probably for political reasons.” Trump also said the WHO  “repeatedly made claims about the coronavirus that was either grossly inaccurate or misleading.”

Trump also holds Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus personally responsible for the massive coronavirus death toll saying, “many lives could have been saved” if Ghebreyesus had done what former Director-General Harlem Brundtland had done during the SARS epidemic almost 20 years ago. Trump’s letter continued, “It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world.”

Trump told the WHO that it better make “major substantive improvements within the next 30 days.” Trump said that if they did not meet his demands, “I will make my temporary freeze of United States funding to the World Health Organization permanent and reconsider our membership in the organization.” Trump ended the letter with, “I cannot allow American taxpayer dollars to continue to finance an organization that, in its present state, is so clearly not serving America’s interests.”

The letter will no doubt have its critics as many Americans blame Trump for his slow response to the virus and not the WHO.
