Of all the images from yesterday’s Trump-fueled riot at the U.S. Capitol, the picture of the smiling anarchist lounging at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s desk may become one of the most memorable. Today that man, Richard Barnett from the northwest Arkansas town of Gravette, is looking for a lawyer.
In a telephone interview with an Arkansas television station, Barnett said, “I didn’t breach the doors. I got shoved in. I didn’t mean to be there. Hell. I was walking around looking for a bathroom.” He tried to explain away his actions: “So I went in there and I set my flag down. I set down here at my desk. I’m a taxpayer, I’m a patriot. That ain’t her desk. I loaned her that desk. If she ain’t appreciating the desk I figured I’d sit down and appreciate the desk. I threw my feet up on the desk at that point. I realized some a**holes had cut me also and I bled on her envelope, so I picked up the envelope and put it in my pocket, and I put a quarter on the desk ’cause I’m not a thief.”
“I wrote her a nasty note, put my feet up on her desk,” Barnett said. The note he left said,” Nancy, Bigo was here, you B****.” Bigo is Barnett’s nickname. He apparently is well known in the community as a vocal supporter of Donald Trump.
Barnett says he’s aware that he could face federal charges in connection with his occupation of Pelosi’s office. “Am I scared? Hell no. But yeah, there’s a possibility,” Barnett said. “If you’re a wicked attorney get in touch me with ’cause I’m gonna need one or two.”
