Trump Tears Into Jim Acosta For Calling Him Out On Contradicting Health Officials On Coronavirus
Coronavirus is reaching the rate of a dangerous pandemic, yet President Donald Trump and his Administration are not too worried about that.
Instead, they are feeding the public misinformation and downplaying the threat, which makes things even worse (and more dangerous).
Thankfully, good journalists are not letting them off the hook so easily.
CNN’s Jim Acosta is a favorite target of the Trump Administration’s “fake news” narrative (i.e., people reporting things admin officials don’t like, so they try to confuse the public into thinking it isn’t true). Of course, it’s only natural he would be one of the reporters to get caught in the crosshairs of the coronavirus misinformation fire.
Acosta first asked Trump:
“What do you say to Americans who are concerned that you’re not taking this seriously enough and that some of your statements don’t match what your health experts are saying?”
Trump, of course, bristled at this and said, “That’s CNN. Fake News.”
Trump was angry at the very premise of a question that made him look bad. This is especially true since he was celebrating good market closings, and had decided to allow the media to question him for a few moments. That was when Acosta brought up the coronavirus.
This question was, of course, enough to flip the switch on Trump’s temper, and he abruptly had the press removed.
Acosta tweeted about the incident, saying:
“Tried to ask Trump to respond to Americans who are concerned he’s not taking situation seriously enough and that his statements don’t match what health experts are saying. He did not answer the question.”

And this is the problem with having a malignant narcissist as President of the United States. They’ll do anything to keep their ego from being bruised, or even from being seen to have mishandled something or to have made a single mistake.
Trump’s ego and image are literally more important to him, the Administration, and the Republican Party than the very lives of the American people. That is what makes this Administration and the GOP an existential threat to America writ large.
