Trump Supporters Studied Capitol Tunnel Maps Ahead Of Attack, Called For War, Blood Spilled
Weeks after the attack on the U.S. Capitol building, the FBI is still investigating and pursuing leads with regard to participants and organizers. Now information released to the public reveals that the Trump supporters involved in the attack reviewed maps of the Capitol and the tunnel system underneath the complex, before the insurrection attempt began.
Washington Post, reporting on an FBI warning a day in advance of the attack, noted that among other concerns Federal law enforcement raised, was the fact that right-wing conspirators were shoring and studying extensive maps of the underground tunnel system beneath the U.S. Capitol.
The FBI report — again, this was released a day in advance of the attack — also cites an online thread containing the following excerpt.
Be ready to fight. Congress needs to hear glass breaking, doors being kicked in, and blood from their BLM and Pantifa slave soldiers being spilled. Get violent. Stop calling this a march, or rally, or a protest. Go there ready for war. We get our President or we die. NOTHING else will achieve this goal.
The tunnels aren’t exactly a secret — Atlas Obscura has covered them as an interesting curiosity, sharing information about portions accessible to the public, transportation systems within the tunnels, and the history thereof.
However, the tunnels have been promoted as a safety measure for legislators — The Drive notes that Congress members and staff had already been advised to use the tunnels on January 6th to avoid the angry mob outside, and that when disaster struck, the tunnels played a part in moving members to safety.
Bearing that in mind, the possibility of an attack targeting the tunnels becomes more chilling still.
