Conservatives have a tried and true method of dealing with gun violence. They even have a prepared set of talking points to break out whenever there is a high-profile shooting.

One tactic Republicans use to avoid doing anything about gun violence is deflecting the blame. Blake Masters, a Donald Trump-backed Senate hopeful, used this tactic back in April. According to Masters, gun violence is mostly a Black people problem.
Masters told podcast hold Jeff Oravits, “We do have a gun violence problem in this country, and it’s gang violence. It’s people in Chicago, St. Louis shooting each other. Very often, you know, Black people, frankly. And the Democrats don’t want to do anything about that.”
Mass shooters over the last 40 years have overwhelmingly been white. One of these white shooters attacked a Buffalo supermarket in May, particularly seeking out Black victims.
The shooter, like Masters, is a subscriber to the Great Replacement Theory. During the podcast interview, Masters stated, “Obviously, the Democrats, they hope to just change the demographics of our country. They hope to import an entirely new electorate. Then they call you a racist and a bigot.”
