Covid-19 cases have started to slowly drop from a very high plateau. Deaths from the virus, however, have continued to rise. Tuesday saw 1,176 deaths reported from coronavirus. This was slightly higher than the numbers recorded last Tuesday and the rolling 7 day total is still on the rise.Every state in America is still trying to figure out how to conduct school in the fall. Donald Trump and his administration are encouraging states to reopen education centers without restrictions. During a Wednesday appearance on Fox and Friends, Trump said schools should be open because, “this thing is going away.”
Trump told the hosts on Wednesday, “My view is the schools should open. This thing is going away. It will go away like things go away and my view is that schools should be open.”
The President continued, “It doesn’t have an impact on them and I have watched some doctors say they’re totally immune. The fact is that they are virtually immune from this problem and we have to open our schools.”
Children certainly aren’t immune to COVID-19. People under 17 years old have contracted the virus in every state. Some of these children have died as a result.
Dr. Deborah Birx, a much maligned member of Trump’s COVID-19 task force feels differently than the President. She recently told CNN’s State of the Union:
“If you have high caseload and active community spread, just like we are asking people not to go to bars, not to have household parties, not to create large spreading events, we are asking people to distance learn at this moment so we can get this epidemic under control.”
