Trump Says He’d “Consider” Florida Governor as His Running Mate
Ron DeSantis certainly has significant political aspirations and Donald Trump said today that he’d consider having him as his 2024 running mate.
Donald Trump would very much like to stay in control of the Republican party. There are some significant hurdles for him to get over, though, if he plans on running in 2024.
The former President is well into his 70’s and has issues with obesity. He also has some very serious legal issues to tackle in both New York and Georgia.
With questions about Trump’s availability, new favorites for the 2024 Republican nomination have emerged. Among them, Mike Pence, Donald Trump Jr. and DeSantis.
Trump talked about DeSantis this morning on the Fox Business channel. First he took total credit for the Florida governor’s popularity, saying, “Well, he’s a friend of mine. I endorsed Ron. And after I endorsed him, he took off like a rocket ship. He’s done a great job as governor.”

The former President was then asked if he would consider having DeSantis as his running mate. He responded, “A lot of people like that — I’m just saying what I read and what you read, they love that ticket. But certainly, Ron would be considered. He’s a great guy.”
The comments from Trump are notable for a number of reasons. First, it is unlikely that DeSantis would consider acting as a running mate unless he fails to secure the nomination himself. Second, it shows that Donald Trump and Mike Pence’s relationship is likely broken beyond repair.
