Donald Trump bases his presidency and his legacy on the size of crowds he is able to draw. This has always been a focus of his term. His first presidential controversy occurred when he had then Press Secretary Sean Spicer claim that Trump’s inauguration crowd was bigger than that of Barack Obama.
The President was looking forward to basking in the adulation of his supporters in the run-up to this years election. Dwindling popularity plus the realities of the Covid-19 pandemic have made this an impossibility. Still, hasn’t stopped Trump from claiming that thousands of supporters cheered him on this weekend in Florida and Texas. Photos and reports from the events, however, showed only dozens.
Trump tweeted on Monday morning, “My visits last week to Texas and Florida had massive numbers of cheering people gathered along the roads and highways, thousands and thousands, even bigger (by far) than the crowds of 2016. Saw no Biden supporters, and yet some in the Fake News said it was an equal number. Sad!”
Trump had supporters in the crowd during a speech at a Tampa airport on Friday. Pictures of the event showed that far fewer Trump fans showed up then expected.
According to Margo Snipe from the Tampa Bay Times, far more supporters line up for Trump along the street.
President Trump is in Pinellas County today and his supporters have come out in big numbers to see his motorcade. The group is now on East Bay Drive. Here’s a timelapse video of the crowd ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/rW2YY0rsde
