Trump Reportedly Accepts Nikki Haley’s Resignation
Donald Trump has reportedly accepted Nikki Haley’s resignation as UN Ambassador. Nikki Haley spoke earlier in the year about pushing back against the president’s agenda at times, and now sources say that she’s officially out. CBS is reporting that Haley will leave her post at the end of the year. The announcement from Trump is expected any moment, and can be viewed live below.
Axios reported that Nikki Haley’s imminent exit was confirmed by two sources who had been briefed on a conversation between Haley and Trump. These sources confirm that Haley discussed resignation when she spoke to Trump last week, and that the president accepted her resignation.
Haley wrote an op-ed last month, declaring that the anonymous writer who described an active resistance in the White House to undermine the president, should act openly instead — saying that she, Haley, does so.
If I disagree with something and believe it is important enough to raise with the president, I do it. And he listens. Sometimes he changes course, sometimes he doesn’t.
The New York Times reported in 2016, when Haley was named as ambassador, that she was a surprise choice to some, because of the opposition she had openly expressed to Trump, and her criticism of him as a presidential candidate.
No date has been named for her exit and an annoouncement from Trump is imminent.
Big announcement with my friend Ambassador Nikki Haley in the Oval Office at 10:30am.
