Trump Goes Nuclear On Romney After the Utah Senator Criticized His Ukraine Call

Republicans have been very slow to talk about Donald Trump’s recent interactions with Volodmyr Zelensky, the President of the Ukraine. Mitt Romney and Ben Sasse are the only two GOP senators who have commented on the recent complaints about the President.

Other GOP lawmakers who might want to condemn Trump just got a sneak peek at how he might react to the critique. Last night, the President blasted Romney calling him a pompous ass and saying he “choked” against Obama in 2012.
When Trump finds himself in a scandal, Romney is typically one of the few Republicans to speak out. He did so on Friday, tweeting, “If the President asked or pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate his political rival, either directly or through his personal attorney, it would be troubling in the extreme. Critical for the facts to come out.”

It didn’t take long for the President to respond. On Saturday morning, he wrote, “Somebody please wake up Mitt Romney and tell him that my conversation with the Ukrainian President was a congenial and very appropriate one, and my statement on China pertained to corruption, not politics. If Mitt worked this hard on Obama, he could have won. Sadly, he choked!”

Trump then claimed that Romney often begs him for help. He continued, “Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous “ass” who has been fighting me from the beginning, except when he begged me for my endorsement for his Senate run (I gave it to him), and when he begged me to be Secretary of State (I didn’t give it to him). He is so bad for R’s!”
