Trump Makes New Extreme Immigration Policy Via Tweet
As the COVID-19 pandemic surges on, President Donald Trump has latched on to it to implement one of his pet causes: keeping immigrants out of the United States.
On Monday, Trump tweeted that he will suspend immigration into the country, and he did it via his favorite mode of communication, Twitter.
“In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!”

In light of the current situation, this might seem reasonable to some people, regardless of political affiliation. However, given the fact that Trump has been waging a cruel and inhumane war on immigrants since he kicked off his 2016 presidential campaign, it could also be seen as something much more sinister.
Trump has already restricted immigration from nations that are some of our closest allies, and this would be his boldest exercise of executive power yet.
Since the declaration was sent via tweet, there is really no telling if Trump negotiated with other nations, or even with his own intelligence community or White House advisers. Even Congressional Republicans might have been in the dark on this one.
Either way, the coronavirus could act as a way for Trump to put his most fervently xenophobic plans into action, and there is a very real possibility that it will not bode well for the nation. Only time will tell how this will play out.
