Trump Jokes that the Secret Service is “in blackface” and suggests their masks should be taken away

Since Democratic Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s medical school yearbook was released, showing him dressed in blackface, there have been a lot of controversies arising based on ‘blackface’ photos which have surfaced of other politicians and public figures as well.

It’s safe to say that wearing blackface is not a joking matter.  Democrats and Republicans alike have harshly criticized Northam, with many from both parties calling for his resignation.

President Trump, who some have accused of being racist himself, took a moment during his speech at Mar-a-Lago Friday night, to touch on several issues that have been going on in the country over the past few months.  According to Axios, the speech, which was given to RNC donors, featured Trump, not only claiming that “Democrats hate Jewish people,” but also an apparent Trump joke about blackface.

According to sources who spoke with Axios, Trump talked about his Secret Service agents who hideout in the White House trees, and wear night vision goggles.  “They’re in blackface,” Trump joked, before suggestion that maybe “they have to take them away,” referring to the night vision goggles.

It is unknown how the crowd on hand reacted to Trump’s controversial attempt at humor.
