Trump: I Will Be a Dictator If Reelected, But Only On Day One

The GOP will hold its fourth debate on Wednesday night. It won't be all that exciting a night as the leading candidate has chosen to skip the event again. Instead, Donald Trump participated in a comfortable Town Hall hosted by Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Unlike in the debate, the former President did not have to face attacks from his opponents and was mostly praised by Hannirt. Still, Trump was able to create controversy by telling the host that he would act like a dictator for one day if he was elected President.

Democrats have argued that Trump would shut down democracy and make himself a dictator if reelected. Hannity asked, "You are promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?"

Trump answered, "Except for Day One. I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill." The former President later doubled down, "I love this guy. He says, 'You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?' I said: 'No, no, no. Other than Day One.' We’re closing the border, and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator."

The Biden team was quick to point out the comments from Trump. Biden's campaign manager,  Julie Chávez Rodriguez, responded, "Donald Trump has been telling us exactly what he will do if he’s reelected and tonight he said he will be a dictator on day one. Americans should believe him."
