Donald Trump is also getting together a team of lawyers to run his defense. Robert Ray, who headed the Whitewater investigation is expected to lead the team. On Friday, it was revealed that the President’s lawyers will also include Ken Starr and the controversial Alan Dershowitz.

Dershowitz told reporters, “The president asked me to do this, and the legal team asked me to do this.” He said that his job will be, “to address the constitutional arguments against impeachment and removal.”

The former Harvard legal professor has defended clients like Claus von Bülow, OJ Simpson and Jeffrey Epstein.

Starr has not yet commented on the story, but an announcement is expected to made sometime today.

There reaction to the hirings has been largely negative.

CNN’s Keith Boykin tweeted, “Of all the lawyers in the country, Trump chose Ken Starr — who was fired from Baylor University over a rape scandal — and Alan Dershowitz — who helped pedophile rapist Jeffrey Epstein stay out of prison. That’s the message Trump wants to send for his impeachment?”

Molly Jong-Fast also weighed in, writing, “Having Jeffrey Epstein’s close personal friend Alan Dershowitz on the presidents legal defense team feels just a little too on the nose.”

The impeachment trial of Donald Trump is expected to begin next week.
