Trump Goes Full “Crazy Uncle” at Michigan Rally

In questioning Donald Trump at last week’s town hall about his indiscriminate retweeting about a conspiracy theory that Joe Biden orchestrated to have Seal Team 6 killed to cover up the fake death of Osama Bin Laden, NBC’s Savannah Guthrie said, “I don’t get that. You’re the president — you’re not like someone’s crazy uncle who can just retweet whatever!”

At his Saturday rally in Muskegon, Mich., Trump set out to prove Guthrie wrong with an almost unbelievable string of “did he really just say that” moments. Most disturbingly Trump mocked the very real danger that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer had faced with the advanced plot to kidnap her and put her on “trial” for her measures to control the spread of coronavirus in her state. The plot against Whitmer was foiled when the FBI and Michigan state police arrested 13 men, most of whom self-identify as Trump supporters.

“Biden and the Democrats want to keep Michigan locked down and locked up and closed for business,” Trump said. “Get your governor to open up your state. And get your schools open. The schools have to be open right?” He then paused for an extended period of time as the crowd built up the chant “lock her up.” “Lock ‘em all up,” the president responded as the chants continued. He then resumed: “I guess they say she was threatened and she blamed me.”

Whitmer fired back on Twitter, writing “This is exactly the rhetoric that has put me, my family, and other government officials’ lives in danger.”

Trump also stoked the crowd by saying that it’s “beautiful” when the National Guard gets into physical altercations with protestors. “There’s something about that, when you watched everybody getting pushed around, there’s some very beautiful about it. I don’t care what anyone says. Not politically correct,” he said.

Some of the other crazy uncle highlights from Saturday:

— Trump again claimed to have won a nonexistent Michigan “man of the year” award

— bragged about the speed of the “super duper missiles, they go very fast, right, hydrosonic”

— claimed Democrats want to “blow the face off Mt. Rushmore”

— encourage the audience to boo “Indigenous Peoples Day”
