Trump Family Refuses To Wear Masks At The Debate, Despite Rule

Donald Trump was asked repeatedly during the Presidential debate Tuesday night to comply with the rules his team had agreed to. However, he wasn’t the only one breaking the rules of the forum. His family sat through the event without masks, despite the venue requiring them.

Before the debate, held at the Cleveland Clinic, several of Donald Trump’s family members — his daughter-in-law Lara, daughters Ivanka and Tiffany, and wife Melania — appeared on social media wearing cloth masks to protect against the spread of COVID-19. There are also photos of Donald Jr. and Eric wearing masks before the event began.

During the course of the debate, masks were discussed, as well as the fact that debate participants had been tested before the event.

However, in the audience, it was a different story. Trump’s family can be seen in photos from the event, sitting in a row in the audience — all without masks, except Melania.

A Bloomberg reporter noticed that many on the Trump side of the debate hall were unmasked, including his kids, and that when a Cleveland CLinic doctor tried to offer them masks, they refused. Attendees on the Biden side wore masks, the reporter observes.

As shown in Rev‘s transcript of the event, a portion of the debate was given over to sparring about mask-wearing. Trump described masks as “okay,” but said he wears one only when he thinks it’s needed. Still, he couldn’t resist mocking Joe Biden for doing so: “I don’t wear a mask like him. Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from him and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.”
