Trump-Endorsed Jody Hice Fighting Subpoena In Georgia Election Tampering Probe

Georgia’s investigation into possible election interference, focusing on efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to contact Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and potentially alter the outcome of the 2020 election, is progressing, and the Grand Jury has issued subpoenas to many of these allies. Representative Jody Hice has now officially joined the list of Trump associates who are fighting to dodge such subpoenas.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Senator Lindsey Graham had been subpoenaed in the probe, and that he intended to fight the subpoena. He said that he was only being subpoenaed as a witness, not for any actions of his own (though he’s also been criticized for a call to Raffensperger), but also indicated that he did not intent to comply.

Now, according to the Independent, Hice is jumping on the same train, starting with a request that the subpoena be transferred to United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia — after which it is presumed that his next step could be to argue for it to be quashed entirely, citing Congressional immunity.

Of course, that immunity is limited, and may or may not apply — but in the meantime, these filings slow the process down, potentially putting off action until after midterm elections, when legislative flips could be on Trump’s side.

Hice was among the many MAGA Republicans running for Secretary of State positions this year, where they’d be given a greater control over their states’ elections.

Despite Trump’s endorsement, he lost in his primary in May, and Raffensperger will have the opportunity in November to hold onto the position.
