Trump Easily Won Iowa in 2016. A New Poll Shows Him Tied With Biden.
When Democrats looked to how they can win the White House back in 2020, they looked at a number of different states. There were a number of obvious targets like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Arizona. And a number of different polls show them leading in all those states.
Democrats are not only polling well in swing states, though, they are starting to poll well in states they didn’t expect to win. A new poll released by Selzer/The Des Moines Register showed Biden in a dead heat with Trump.
Iowa wasn’t expected to be a Democratic target in 2020. Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the state by 9% in 2016. Republicans tightened their grip on the state during the 2018 midterms.
Biden, however is popular in the Hawkeye State. Barack Obama was able to win Iowa in 2008 by nearly 10%. He took the state again in 2012 by nearly 6%.

The former Vice President is tied in the state thanks to his support from women voters. The polls show women supporting Biden by a margin of 20%. Trump leads among men in the state by a margin of 21%.
J. Ann Selzer says of her findings, “I don’t know that there’s any race in the history of presidential polling in Iowa that shows this kind of division.” The pollster continued, “We’ve had two polls in a row putting it very, very close. I think all eyes will be on Iowa.”
Trump has also pulled down the chances of senator Joni Ernst. Once expected to win easily, Ernst is locked in a tight battle with Theresa Greenfield. Fivethirtyeight.com shows Greenfield leading Ernst in a number of different polls.
