Donald Trump has made it no secret that Fox News is his favorite cable news outlet. Not only has Fox News received incredible access to Trump, it has also been given a reprieve from his media attacks.
Reporters John Roberts and Gillian Turner, however, have gotten on the wrong side of the president with their recent coverage. Last night, Trump slammed the duo, putting their reporting on par with frequent targets such as CNN and MSNBC.
Trump tweeted, “Never thought I’d say this but I think John Roberts and Gillian Turner have even less understanding of the Wall negotiations than the folks at FAKE NEWS CNN & NBC! Look to final results! Don’t know how my poll numbers are so good, especially up 19% with Hispanics?”
The president continued, “After all that I have done for the Military, our great Veterans, Judges (99), Justices (2), Tax & Regulation Cuts, the Economy, Energy, Trade & MUCH MORE, does anybody really think I won’t build the WALL? Done more in first two years than any President! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The idea that Turner and Roberts would criticize Trump is not all that surprising. Turner has largely been supportive of Trump, but is also more moderate than most Fox News commentators. She has experience working as a national security adviser to both George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Roberts has also been critical of the president at times. During the summer, he made news by defending CNN against Trump, saying, “There are some fine journalists who work there and risk their lives to report on stories around the world. To issue a blanket condemnation of the network as ‘fake news’ is also unfair.”
While largely supportive of Trump, the show Fox & Friends has also been critical of some of his recent moves. After a difficult January, the president may not be safe from additional condemnation.
