Trump Campaign Made ‘Curious’ Jan 6th Payments to People Not On the Payroll

The investigation into the events leading up to the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th continues to reveal new details into just who was involved in the planning and staging of the “Stop the Steal” rally that preceded the attack on Congress.

According to a report in The Daily Beast released on Monday, Republicans are still throwing money at groups involved with the planning. One such firm, Event Strategies, was the primary company used to set up the rally that day and continues to be the go-to event company for the Republicans despite the connection to the violent events at the Capitol. Trump’s fundraising organizations have paid the firm about $800,000 since the insurrection, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

That money included a $31,358 payment on August 13th by Make America Great Again Action, the super PAC previously run by Corey Lewandowski that was shut down last month amid sexual assault allegations. The National Republican Congressional Committee reported spending about $3,675 for “facility rental” with the firm and $6,000 for “audiovisual/staging” in late June, and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) paid $200,000 and $7,038 to the company in late August, according to the Daily Beast. None of the other top event management firms on Trump’s payroll between October 2020 and the riot have worked for him since January 6th.

The Trump campaign also paid out travel reimbursements to nearly 60 people, including many who had not previously appeared on the payroll, the day after the Capitol riot. Public records also show a number of curious payments on and around January 6th—including more than $25,000 in advertising that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) paid to right-wing social media platform Parler, with one transaction on the day of the riot, the Daily Beast reports.
