Trump Campaign Brags About Fundraising Haul, Only to be Out-Raised by Biden

The Trump campaign has attempted to explain away Joe Biden’s polling lead in a few different ways. One is by calling into question the methodology of national polling, saying their internal polling is better. And the other way is claiming that Trump’s supporters are much more enthusiastic than Biden’s are.

On way to measure enthusiasm is by looking at how much money the campaigns are raising. For much of the election cycle, Trump was in the lead. But for the month of May and now for the month of June, Biden has taken in more donations than Trump has.

In the month of May, the Democratic candidate took in a bit over $80 million, compared to $74 million for Trump. That number grew considerably in June with Biden raising $141 million to Trump’s $131 million.

Prior to Biden’s numbers being released, the Trump campaign attempted to brag about their total. After yet another haul of record-breaking support, the voters are speaking loud and clear ― they support President Trump,” RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel boasted. “As Joe Biden remains hidden in his basement, President Trump is leading this country to a Great American Comeback that will reignite our economy, restore law and order, and usher in a new era of strength.”

Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon responded, “We’re still crunching the numbers, but here’s what we know: -We raised $141 million in June. 68% of our donors were new. We added 2.6 million people to our list. $282.1 million for the quarter. There’s real, grassroots energy for Joe.”
