Trump Campaign Blames Pathetic Rally Turnout on BLM Protesters

Donald Trump really didn’t need to hold a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The state is safely red as Trump defeated Hillary Clinton by a margin of in 2016. That didn’t stop Republicans, overlooking concerns from epidemiologists, from holding the rally anyway.

Trump is sure to be enraged by the optics. The President’s campaign reported this week that they have had over 1,000,000 RVSP’s for the event. But the 19,000 seat arena, though, is not close to full and an overflow speech by the President has been cancelled. The Trump campaign is now blaming the pathetic turnout on outside agitators.

The campaign had high hopes for this event. Last Sunday, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted, “Just passed 800,000 tickets. Biggest data haul and rally signup of all time by 10x.”

Those hope haven’t been realized. The campaign has now pivoted to explaining why the event’s turnout has been so poor.

Trump surrogate Tim Murtaugh said in a statement, “President Trump is rallying in Tulsa with thousands of energetic supporters, a stark contrast to the sleepy campaign being run by Joe Biden from his basement in Delaware.”

Murtaugh continued, “Sadly, protesters interfered with supporters, even blocking access to metal detectors, which prevented people from entering the rally. Radical protesters, coupled with a relentless onslaught from the media, attempted to frighten off the President’s supporters. We are proud of the thousands who stuck it out.”

There is absolutely no evidence to support Mutaugh’s claim that protesters prevented Trump supporters from entering the building.
